CLERK KENNY BARGER

Madison County Clerk Kenny Barger

A native of Richmond, Kentucky, Clerk Kenny Barger graduated from Madison Central High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University. Prior to his election in 2010, Clerk Barger worked in his family’s business, Barger’s Towing and Recovery, and as Manager at Mikron Industries Inc., both located in Richmond, KY. He is married to Sarah Hill Barger, who is a teacher at Silver Creek Elementary in Berea. They also have two daughters, Riley and Paige, who both attended Eastern Kentucky University.

Clerk Kenny Barger took office as Madison County Clerk on January 2, 2011. He ran on being the most cost-effective, customer-service driven county in the state of Kentucky. During his first term, a significant number of changes occurred, including equipment upgrades at no cost to the county, enhancing training and preparation for elections and review of a variety of internal processes that has since led to saving the county and taxpayers money. When Clerk Barger was re-elected to his second term in 2015, he continued to enhance services in both offices. You may now apply for a marriage license in both Richmond and Berea Offices. In 2014, the office implemented the new State-wide Voter Registration Software. In December 2016, the task of scanning all voter registration cards for 63,000 registered Madison County voters was completed. Effective January 2017, the Clerk’s Office in Richmond became a passport acceptance agency, as an additional service to provide to the citizens. Most recently, the Clerk’s Office signed a contract for the purchase of new election equipment for Election Day(s), which is aimed at enhancing the voter experience, increasing voting machine integrity, and providing cost-savings to Madison County.

Clerk Barger is an active member of the community, as a member of the College Hill United Methodist Church, Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and Berea Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as Board President for the Habitat of Humanity Board of Madison and Clark County. Not only is Clerk Barger’s community involvement served on a local level, but he serves on several committees at the State level as well. Clerk Barger has served on the KAVIS Steering Committee since 2015, and in 2017, he was appointed to Chairman of the Budget and Audit Committee for the Kentucky County Clerk’s Association (KCCA) as well as serving on the Elections Committee and Bylaws Committee of KCCA.

As part of being a proactive leader of Madison County, these committees govern and regulate many laws and policies that have a direct effect on the taxpayers of Madison County. He believes it is important to be involved at both the local and state level so he can be informed to make the best decisions for constituents. Clerk Barger also believes in the importance of educating the citizens on the structure and processes of local government, which is why his office is continuing to make changes that are aimed at streamlining information through enhancing our website, frequent social media updates, and in-house TV monitors with informational slides.
