HOW TO RENEW YOUR REGISTRATION...

REQUIRED DOCUMENTAION

Bring your vehicle registration or the postcard renewal notice.

Bring proof of Kentucky insurance (VIN number must match registration).

Proof of insurance can be e-mailed to ins@madisoncountyky.gov
​
The effective date on your insurance card must be no more than 45 days from the date you come to the County Clerk's Office to register your vehicle.

PROPERTY TAX
T​he owner of a vehicle on January 1 of each year will be responsible for the tax for that year. If the property tax has not been paid at the time of transfer, the seller will be responsible for that tax.
​
To avoid delinquent taxes, it is recommended that the seller pay taxes at the time of transfer. If they do not do this at the time of transfer, the seller will be sent notification by the KY Revenue Cabinet that taxes are owed.
​
Fees are based on a 12-month validity period for standard issue plates and does not include special or personalized plates.
